7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HITS THE ISLAND
On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. The disaster caused widespread destruction, killing more than 200,000 people and leaving millions homeless. Infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and government buildings, collapsed, overwhelming the country’s limited resources.

The international community responded with massive humanitarian aid, but recovery has been slow due to political instability and recurring natural challenges. The 2010 earthquake remains one of the most tragic events in Haiti’s modern history, deeply shaping its social and economic landscape.
